Laboratories are obliged to report infectious diseases to the health authorities in accordance with Section 7 of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG). The German Electronic Reporting and Information System for Infection Protection(DEMIS) is available for this purpose, which enables electronic reporting nationwide in accordance with the Infection Protection Act and transmits the laboratory findings to the responsible health authority and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
